The Vandrevala Foundation recruits passionate volunteers to staff our mental health crisis intervention services.
Volunteers are vital to our work and are instrumental in providing a safe and secure connection for people who need help.
Our team welcomes individuals of all backgrounds into our volunteer family, and we work to uplift, recognize, and support our growing volunteer network. The life-saving work of the Vandrevala Foundation would not be possible without the dedication of our incredible volunteers.
We offer different volunteering opportunities through which you can help end suicide, help people overcome depression and anxiety, provide psychological counselling, and save lives.
Paid Counsellor Program
We’re currently planning to pilot a paid-volunteer program that allows volunteers to charge for their services.
The following individuals qualify to be onboarded on our system:
Since mental health is no different from physical health and mental problems and illnesses are treatable, anyone suffering from a mental illness should be treated with dignity
Trained psychiatrists who have practised for more than five years (MD)
Volunteers who have completed 250 hours on our system may also apply.

Volunteer Opportunities
We offer a variety of opportunites for volunteers to get involved in our life-saving work. Below are opportunities for ongoing engagement with the Vandrevala Foundation.
Crisis Counsellor with a psychology background
Telephone counsellors have a degree in psychology [MA-Psychology] and answer calls from people who reach out to our 24/7 phone Mental Health Helpline when they are feeling suicidal or need a safe, non-judgemental place to talk about their anxiety, depression or any other mental health issue.

Remote from anywhere in India
You’ll need access to a secure, private, and quiet location
Commitment
250 hours of volunteering, after which they can be considered for our Paid Counsellor Program
Training requirements
3-hour virtual training
Technical requirements
Personal computer or smartphone with the most up-to-date operating system (e.g., Windows 10, macOS Catalina, or Linux) and the ability to download the latest version of Google Chrome
Reliable high-speed internet connection
A minimum of 5Mbps download speed, 2Mbps upload speed

Register and submit application
Create an account in our volunteer portal and complete our application. Please fill out our form here and we’ll be in touch shortly. This should take approximately 5-10 minutes.
Recruiter follow up
Next, you will hear from our Volunteer Recruitment Team with potential next steps. In some cases, they will schedule an interview to ask follow-up questions about your application. Please know that due to the high volume of applications received and our careful review of each applicant, this step of the process can take a couple of days.
Complete training
Our team will support you through a required volunteer training.

Volunteer perks
Training: Volunteers will receive ongoing training from experts and other volunteers and staff. They will also learn invaluable skills for their professional and personal lives—from active listening to crisis de-escalation.
Online networks: Volunteers will gain access to a LinkedIn group connecting them to other awesome volunteers across India.
Opportunity to start private practice: After 250 hours of volunteering, volunteers who receive accreditation may be invited to join the paid counsellors group.
